Villarreal vs Real Valladolid

Estadio de la Ceramica is the venue as Villarreal and Real Valladolid meet in contrasting La Liga circumstances.

Having clinched five victories and one draw, Villarreal have remained undefeated in their last six La Liga games, a run bookended by a come-from-behind 3-2 win at Real Madrid last time out. They have won their previous three league matches by an aggregate score of 8-2, but their last four-match winning streak in Spain’s elite club competition dates back to January 2022 (W4). ‘El Submarino Amarillo’ will feel confident about matching that feat this weekend as they go up against a Valladolid side they’ve defeated ‘to nil’ in their last three top-flight H2Hs, including a thumping 3-0 victory in the reverse fixture. Replicating that feat at La Ceramica would see Villarreal beat a specific opposition in four consecutive league encounters without conceding for the first time since 2015.

In the meantime, visiting Real Valladolid shared the spoils with Mallorca in a topsy-turvy 3-3 home draw last weekend, stretching their underwhelming winless run in La Liga to four matches (D2, L2). High scoring has been a common theme in Valladolid’s recent league fixtures, as the last three have featured over 3.5 goals at an average of 5.3 per game. Worryingly, though, ‘Los Pucelanos’ conceded 3+ goals in each of those three matches, a feat they previously experienced in 1995. The visitors are unlikely to return to winning ways this weekend, at least considering they’ve failed to win any of their last six top-flight away meetings with Villarreal (D2, L4).
