Torino vs Roma

Serie A top-four hopefuls Roma make the journey to the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino to take on mid-table underachievers Torino in a must-win league match.

Torino fought back from a 1-0 halftime deficit to hold Sassuolo to a 1-1 draw earlier this week, cementing their mid-table status with a fifth winless Serie A game in the last seven (D2, L3). Following an embarrassing 4-0 defeat to runaway leaders Napoli in their most recent home league outing, the ‘Granata’ could lose consecutive home league matches without scoring for the first time since May 2022, when the two losses came to non-other than Napoli and Roma. Indeed, Ivan Juric’s men have encountered little luck in their recent home meetings with ‘I Giallorossi,’ going down four times in their last six top-flight H2Hs in Turin (W1, D1). But after only losing two of their eight Serie A home clashes in the run-up to this game (W4, D2), Torino might flip the script this weekend.

In the meantime, visiting Roma took full advantage of going a man up against relegation-threatened Sampdoria last weekend, strolling to a 3-0 home win to end an underwhelming run of three competitive matches without winning (D1, L2). Despite losing three of their last four Serie A fixtures (W1), Jose Mourinho’s men are still in contention for a first top-four finish since 2017/18 as they start this round level on points with fourth-placed Inter Milan. However, something has to be done about their travel sickness that’s seen ‘I Giallorossi’ go winless on their last six road trips in all competitions (D2, L4). On top of that, the visitors have failed to get on the scoresheet in three of their four most recent competitive away games, casting doubt on their chances to extend a three-match unbeaten H2H run against Torino (W2, D1).
