Rayo Vallecano vs Getafe

Campo de Futbol de Vallecas is the venue as Rayo Vallecano and Getafe go head-to-head in a bottom-half La Liga six-pointer.

Rayo Vallecano’s 3-1 defeat at La Liga newcomers Almeria last weekend sparked doubts amongst the Vallecas faithful about the club’s ability to remain in Spain’s top flight for the third consecutive season. Stuck in mid-table, only four clear of the relegation zone, ‘Los Franjirrojos’ will draw confidence from winning their last two league matches at home via an identical 2-1 scoreline. However, they have picked up just one victory in their four previous top-flight encounters against Getafe (D1, L2), though they kept them goalless in both last season’s duels (W1, D1), including a 3-0 triumph in this corresponding fixture. Worryingly, though, Vallecano have been winless in five of their last six La Liga meetings with sides from Comunidad de Madrid (D1, L5), drawing a blank in four of them.

In the meantime, visiting Getafe slumped to a 1-0 home defeat to Real Madrid last weekend, making it two La Liga defeats in a row. Since a goalless home draw with Villarreal in late August, none of Getafe’s five subsequent league games have ended level (W2, L3). But since three of their last four La Liga results (win/loss) have yielded a single-goal margin, the Vallecas crowd could be in for a tight, keenly-contested affair. ‘Los Azulones’ will be out to upset the local support and win back-to-back La Liga outings for the first time since February 2020 following a 2-0 victory at Osasuna on their most recent league travel. Despite Quique Sanchez Flores’ defensive-minded football, his men have conceded a league second joint-high 16 goals thus far, meaning not everything may go according to plan at the Campo de Futbol de Vallecas.
