PSV Eindhoven vs Liverpool
Champions League pacesetters Liverpool take a trip to the Philips Stadion to take on playoff hopefuls PSV Eindhoven.
Potentially one point away from securing knockout qualification, PSV took a massive step forward in the penultimate round with a 3-2 win at Red Star Belgrade. The Peasants replicated that scoreline against NAC Breda at the weekend to strengthen their formidable form at the Philips Stadion, where they’ve only lost once across their last 53 competitive games (W44, D8). A ten-game unbeaten run in European football forms part of that sequence (W6, D4), bolstering PSV’s hopes of ending a disheartening five-match losing streak against Liverpool. Ominously, Peter Bosz’s side only scored twice across those H2Hs, losing the last two via an identical 3-1 scoreline. Another entertaining fixture is on the cards, considering each of PSV’s three home matches in 2025 saw both teams score at least twice!
In the meantime, Liverpool’s 2-1 home triumph against Lille last week made Arne Slot only the second manager to win their first seven Champions League games in charge of a new club. Through to the round of 16 with a game to spare, the Reds can afford calculations but will aim to build on a 4-1 thrashing of Ipswich last weekend. Chances are they’re going to make it, at least given their phenomenal run of 12 victories from their last 15 Champions League away games (L3). However, there’s a potential downside, as Slot has only beaten PSV once in seven previous meetings as a manager (D3, L3). A flying start should help, and with Liverpool conceding just one first-half goal in their last eight games, that should be a safe bet.
