PSG vs AC Milan

Parc des Princes forms the backdrop for a mammoth Champions League fixture between Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan.

Paris Saint-Germain got their Group F journey off to a winning start, putting Borussia Dortmund to the sword on the opening matchday (2-0) before slumping to a humiliating 4-1 defeat at Newcastle United last time out. A catastrophic result at St James’ Park prompted rumors over Luis Enrique’s future in Paris, forcing a strong response from the perennial Ligue 1 champions as they’ve won back-to-back league games since by a combined score of 6-1, including a 3-0 demolition of Strasbourg at the weekend. Milan’s upcoming visit will put PSG’s form resurgence to a stern test, considering ‘Les Parisiens’ have never triumphed across their previous four Champions League H2Hs (D2, L2). However, PSG’s superb form on home turf has seen them lose just one of their last 34 matches in the Champions League group stages (W27, D6).

As for AC Milan, despite attempting 25 shots on goal against Newcastle United on day one, Stefano Pioli’s side had to settle for a dreadful 0-0 scoreline. The Italians wasted a catalog of chances in a scoreless draw against Borussia Dortmund last time out and are in dire need of points if they’re to replicate their outstanding 2022/23 Champions League run, which saw them reach the semi-finals. But ‘I Rossoneri’ have seen goals hard to come by in Europe, netting just three in their last eight Champions League outings! What’s more, their last seven competitive matches have featured under 2.5 goals, highlighting the potential for another tepid affair. Milan would probably sign up for another uneventful contest if it can help them defy their woeful all-time H2H away record against French opposition (D4, L7).
