Napoli vs Inter Milan
One of the most highly-anticipated fixtures on the Serie A schedule sees Napoli and Inter Milan go head-to-head at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
Complacency has been a genuine problem for Napoli since it’s become clear they’d end a 33-year Scudetto wait, with Luciano Spalletti’s side going winless in three of their last four Serie A outings (D2, L1), including a 2-0 defeat at top-flight debutants Monza in the previous round. But their only triumph in that sequence came at home as Victor Osimhen’s second-half penalty fired them to a 1-0 win over Fiorentina, ending an underwhelming run of four winless home matches in all competitions (D3, L1). However, ‘I Partenopei’ boast a formidable H2H record against Inter in Serie A, having lost just one of their last 16 league encounters against them in Naples (W9, D6). Another H2H success would see Napoli beat all 19 opponents in a single top-flight campaign for the first time in the club’s history.
On the other, Inter Milan will take the field in high spirits after a 3-0 aggregate win over arch-rivals AC Milan in their Champions League semi-final tie helped them reach the most significant European final for the first time since 2010. A 1-0 win over ‘I Rossoneri’ in midweek European action forms part of the visitors’ impressive eight-game winning streak in all competitions, six of which yielded multi-goal margins, including a 2-0 win at Roma on their most recent Serie A travel. In Serie A alone, Simone Inzaghi’s men have won their last five matches by an aggregate score of 18-3, netting at least three goals on four occasions to highlight the potential for an action-packed contest. That said, Inter’s last two league visits to Napoli have ended 1-1.
