Leicester City vs West Ham United

It’s the moment of truth for relegation-threatened Leicester City as they face bottom-half West Ham United at the King Power Stadium in their final match of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign.

Only seven years after winning the Premier League trophy against the odds, Leicester City are on the verge of relegation after an abysmal five-match winless run (D3, L2) pinned them to 18th in the standings, two points adrift of safety. Unless Everton drop points at home to Bournemouth, not even a first top-flight home win over West Ham since January 2020 (D1, L1 since) will be enough to save the hosts’ skin. Following a 2-0 victory in the reverse fixture, the ‘Foxes’ could complete a league double over West Ham for only the fourth time in history, though it’ll require Dean Smith’s men to defy an underwhelming seven-game home league form (W1, D1, L5). What’s even more concerning for Leicester is that they’ve failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last 12 home league outings (W2, D2, L8).

Even though West Ham’s domestic season has been an utter disaster, David Moyes’ men could end an exhausting European title drought after reaching the Europa Conference League final. That’s perhaps the only saving grace for Moyes, as his side spent the entire Premier League season struggling in the lower reaches. The ‘Hammers’ have alternated between victories (2) and defeats (2) in their last four league matches, most recently overcoming Leicester’s fellow relegation rivals Leeds United 3-1 at home. However, since they last won back-to-back Premier League games in October, West Ham cannot take anything for granted. Adding to this sentiment, their six most recent top-flight visits to the King Power have fluctuated between different results (W2, D2, L2).
