Lazio vs Juventus

Stadio Olimpico sets the stage for a mouth-watering Serie A contest between familiar foes Lazio and Juventus.

These are torrid times for Lazio despite a precious 3-2 victory against Frosinone on the stroke of March’s international break. ‘I Biancocelesti’ ended a dreadful four-game losing streak in their first outing after Maurizio Sarri’s exit, giving a glimmer of hope to new manager Igor Tudor that he could help them secure European football. With only two points separating them from seventh-placed Napoli at the start of this round, that’s a distinct possibility. But after losing three consecutive home matches for the first time since 2007, there’s a reasonable suspicion around their continental credentials. Avenging a disastrous 3-1 defeat in September’s reverse fixture is almost imperative, especially as Lazio stare down the barrel of a four-game losing home run in Serie A for the first time since 1961.

Juventus last completed a league double against Lazio in 20181/9, largely thanks to their perennial struggles in the capital. After that campaign, they’ve only won once in four away league matches against this opposition (D1, L2), going down 2-1 in this corresponding fixture last term. That spells trouble for manager Massimiliano Allegri, whose future is under the microscope after a goalless home draw against Genoa before the international break condemned ‘I Bianconeri’ to a seventh winless Serie A game in their last eight (D4, L3). Leaving Turin could only make things worse as Allegri’s men take this trip amidst a three-game winless league streak on the road (D1, L2). If it’s any consolation, Juventus’ typically strong starts away from home have seen them concede the opening goal on just five of their 14 Serie A travels this season.
