Lazio vs Como

Stadio Olimpico sets the stage for a ‘David vs Goliath’ Serie A clash between Lazio and Como.

Lazio couldn’t have imagined a worse way to start the new calendar year than losing 2-0 to arch-rivals Roma in last weekend’s Derby della Capitale, losing further ground on Serie A leaders Napoli. With three defeats from their previous six league outings (W2, D1), Marco Baroni’s men have compromised their top-four chances, allowing fifth-placed Juventus to reduce the distance to only two points. At the risk of losing back-to-back Serie A games for the first time since May, ‘I Biancocelesti’ can turn to their H2H record against Como for inspiration. They’ve won their last three meetings, including a thumping 5-1 victory earlier this season. Another emphatic scoreline is on the cards, as they’ve averaged an eye-catching 2.43 goals per home league match this season (W6, L1)!

In contrast to Lazio’s recent slumps, Como opened 2025 on a positive note, beating Lecce 2-0 at home to steer a point away from the bottom three. That was their second win in three Serie A games (L1) following an identical victory against Lazio’s bitter rivals Roma. However, taking points on the road has been Como’s Achilles heel this term, with Cesc Fabregas’ side only winning once on their ten Serie A road trips (D3, L6). Furthermore, they netted a meager average of just 0.8 goals per away game, failing to find the net in three of their last five. You’d need to go back to October for Como’s only top-flight triumph away from home this season, while they’ve not won at the Stadio Olimpico against Lazio since 1952!
