Gwangju vs Ulsan Hyundai

Gwangju Football Stadium is the venue as K League 1 playoff hopefuls Gwangju take on defending champions Ulsan Hyundai.

Gwangju’s topsy-turvy start to the season continued on Matchday 15 as a narrow 1-0 home loss to Gangwon maintained a dismal trend that has seen the hosts alternate between winning and losing across their last eight league outings (W4, L4). With the most recent four games in that span producing an identical 1-0 scoreline, it stands to reason fans in attendance will be in for a low-scoring contest. Against this backdrop, Gwangju’s last two competitive meetings with Ulsan have featured 3+ goals, including a romping 3-0 defeat in the reverse fixture earlier this month. Revenge doesn’t look likely, considering Lee Jung-hyo’s men have suffered back-to-back 1-0 home defeats to this opposition – all competitions included.

In the meantime, Ulsan fought back from a two-goal deficit to beat Gimcheon Sangmu 3-2 last time out, stretching their unbeaten league run to five games (W3, D2). However, a lack of consistency saw them alternate between wins and draws in all five matches, casting doubt on their bid to post consecutive top-flight victories for the first time since early March. On the bright side, the reigning champions have won three of their last five away league games (D1, L1), with each match featuring a full-time margin of under 1.5 goals, highlighting the potential for an evenly contested affair.
