Eintracht Frankfurt vs RB Leipzig
Deutsche Bank Park sets the stage for an enthralling Bundesliga final-day contest between familiar foes Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig.
The math’s simple for Frankfurt heading into the Bundesliga season finale as they need a point against Leipzig to ensure a sixth-place finish and, in turn, Europa League qualification. However, the hosts can afford to take anything for granted after only winning once across their last eight league outings (D3, L4). If it’s any consolation, Die Adler hadn’t lost five consecutive home league games (W2, D3) before slumping to a dreadful 5-1 defeat to high-flying champions Bayer Leverkusen last time out. Nothing of the sort should happen this weekend, as Frankfurt’s unbeaten home record against Leipzig in the Bundesliga (W3, D4) suggests this encounter could only go one way. Adding to the home side’s confidence, they eked out a 1-0 win in January’s reverse fixture.
If there was a time for Leipzig to break their Deutsche Bank Park hoodoo, it’s now. Marco Rose’s men haven’t lost any of their last 11 competitive matches since a 2-1 defeat at former Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in late February (W7, D4). However, back-to-back 1-1 league draws against Werder Bremen and TSG Hoffenheim can’t inspire much confidence. What might rekindle their spirits is the fact Die Rotten Bullen had won four away league games on the trot before being held by Hoffenheim last time out. Interestingly, each of those six matches saw Leipzig conceding precisely once, extending their woeful run without an away clean sheet to 18 games in all competitions. The last time Rose’s team registered a Bundesliga shutout on the road was in September!
