Denmark vs Northern Ireland
Parken Stadium is the venue as Denmark and Northern Ireland go head-to-head in an exciting international friendly.
Denmark dropped a narrow first-leg advantage in their UEFA Nations League quarter-final tie against Portugal during March’s international break and will aim to recover this month. The second-leg loss in Lisbon marked Denmark’s fifth winless outing in their last six (D2, L3). Worryingly, half of those games saw them concede at least two goals, identifying a porous backline as the weakest link of Brian Riemer’s side. The upcoming friendly against Northern Ireland isn’t necessarily a perfect opportunity to bounce back, considering the Danes have lost two of the last three meetings between the nations (W1), conceding precisely twice in both defeats. However, they’ve fared impressively on home soil since returning from Euro 2024, as they’ve won three of their four such fixtures (L1) since last September.
On the other hand, Northern Ireland failed to shine during the last international window, following up a 1-1 friendly draw against Switzerland with a dismal 5-1 defeat to Sweden. Those failures extended their winless run to three matches (D2, L1), putting themselves at risk of going four in a row without winning for the first time since a five-game losing streak between March and September 2023. Avoiding that unwanted feat could prove easier said than done, considering the visitors have won none of their last five away internationals (D2, L3), netting under 1.5 goals on four occasions. As if that’s not ominous enough, they’ve never won on Danish soil (D2, L4).
