Columbus Crew vs Nashville SC

One of the most exciting fixtures in the Major League Soccer midweek schedule pits Columbus Crew and Nashville SC against each other at Lower.com Field.

Last season’s 2nd-place finish in the Eastern Conference is again within Columbus’ reach despite a woeful four-game winless sequence in the build-up to this clash (D3, L1). After three straight scoring draws, the Crew let an early lead slip through their fingers to lose 3-2 at Charlotte FC last time out, putting themselves at risk of losing back-to-back MLS games for the first time this season. However, that’s an unlikely prospect, considering Wilfried Nancy’s men have only suffered one home league defeat this season (W4, D3). Yet, an unenviable run of five successive MLS home outings without a clean sheet offers a note of caution (W3, D1, L1). 

On the other hand, Nashville maintained their uptick in form with a 2-1 win at Toronto FC last weekend, making it six consecutive MLS games without defeat (W4, D2). Level on points with their hosts, Nashville could open up the gap in the standings with their first win in four H2Hs (D1, L2). It would also keep them in the running for a top spot on the east as they currently trail leaders Philadelphia Union by three points. However, Nashville’s travel sickness could hinder those lofty ambitions, with the Boys in Gold going winless in three straight league matches on the road (D1, L2) before seeing off Toronto.
