Cagliari vs Lazio
Unipol Domus sets the stage for a high-stakes Serie A encounter between relegation-battling Cagliari and top-four hopefuls Lazio.
Firmly embroiled in Serie A’s relegation scrap for the second consecutive season, Cagliari commence this round a point clear of the bottom three following a 2-0 defeat at Torino last weekend. That result knocked them down from a three-game unbeaten league run at the start of 2025 (W2, D1) and marked their 11th top-flight loss this season. Furthermore, it was the 12th time Davide Nicola’s side conceded at least two goals in Serie A this term. Ominously, nine of those 11 defeats saw the Sardinians fail to get on the scoresheet, meaning they’ve lost more Serie A games without scoring than any other team in 2024/25. Agonizingly close to the drop zone, Nicola’s charges return to the Unipol Domus, where they’ve blown hot and cold across their last four league matches (W2, L2).
Meanwhile, after back-to-back competitive wins in mid-January, Lazio’s form has fallen off a cliff, with Marco Baroni’s side losing back-to-back matches via a single-goal margin, including a 2-1 home defeat to Fiorentina last weekend. As a result of their second loss from four league games in 2025 (W1, D1), ‘I Biancocelesti’ fell a point off fourth-placed Juventus ahead of the kickoff, highlighting the importance of an immediate improvement. Interestingly, they’re the only side in Serie A yet to draw an away league fixture this season (W6, L5). However, they emerged victorious from three of their last four away league games (L1), with three of those four results (wins/losses) seeing the winner on the day keep a clean sheet.
