Cadiz vs Sevilla

Cadiz and Sevilla are set to square off in an all-Andalusian La Liga showdown at the Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla.

Despite dealing with a substantial list of absentees, second-bottom Cadiz eked out a goalless away draw against league-leaders Real Madrid last time out to bolster confidence ahead of the second half of the season. ‘El Submarino Amarillo’ head into proceedings winless in their last five La Liga games in a row (D2, L3) but with realistic hopes of avoiding relegation. Alvaro Cervera’s men currently trail 17th-placed Elche by a mere two points, meaning a first H2H La Liga win at home since 1991 would steer them away from the drop zone. That’s easier said than done, as ‘Los Piratas’ have won none of their last eight La Liga meetings with Sevilla (D4, L4), failing to get on the scoresheet six times in that sequence.

Meanwhile, Sevilla rounded 2021 off on a run of four La Liga games without losing (W3, D1), including a 1-1 home draw with Barcelona last time out. Real Madrid’s shock 1-0 defeat at Getafe yesterday might have thrown ‘Los Rojiblancos’ a much-needed lifeline in the La Liga title race. Julen Lopetegui’s men are now eight points adrift of top-placed Madrid, albeit they have two games in hand, highlighting the importance of this fixture. However, Sevilla have picked up just one victory from their last four La Liga encounters against fellow Andalusian rivals (D1, L2). On the bright side, the visitors have racked up three wins in their last five away league games (D1, L1), keeping a clean sheet in each triumph. Defensively robust, they have conceded a league-low 13 La Liga goals in the first half of the season.
