Bochum vs RB Leipzig
Vonovia Ruhrstadion forms the backdrop for a high-stakes Bundesliga clash between relegation-threatened Bochum and top-four hopefuls RB Leipzig.
Bochum squeezed past newcomers St. Pauli 1-0 in midweek Bundesliga action to take their humiliating seasonal tally to nine points. However, they became one of only 11 teams in Bundesliga history to fail to hit double digits after 17 matchdays. Nailed to the bottom of the table, Bochum can draw heart from accruing seven of their nine league points across the last four rounds (W2, D1, L1). Manager Dieter Hecking laments a dreadful personal H2H record against RB Leipzig (W1, D1, L5) but can turn to Bochum’s decent four-game home league form for inspiration (W2, D1, L1). Worryingly, the hosts have lost four out of five top-flight matches against current top-11 teams on home turf (D1), with seven of their eight home points arriving against sides from the bottom half of the table.
Meanwhile, Leipzig came flying out of the traps at the start of 2025, beating Werder Bremen 4-2 at home, only to slump to a 2-1 defeat at Stuttgart during midweek, throwing their top-four hopes into doubt. With fifth-placed Stuttgart now only a point adrift, Marco Rose’s must rediscover their away form quickly after losing four of their last five Bundesliga matches on the road (W1). Rose couldn’t have hoped for a more favorable opponent, given he has only lost one of his five previous H2Hs against Bochum (W3, D1). Furthermore, ‘Die Roten Bullen’ have been ruthless against bottom-half opposition this season, conceding just one goal in eight such fixtures (W4, D3, L1).
