Augsburg vs RB Leipzig

WWK Arena sets the stage for a high-stakes Bundesliga clash between Augsburg and RB Leipzig. 

Augsburg held Mainz to a tepid goalless draw in the last round to make it five straight Bundesliga matches unbeaten (W3, D2) following a miserable run of just one win from eight previous league games (D3, L4). However, the home side’s mini-revival has barely been enough for a substandard 12th place, though they’re the division’s third team in the form table across the last five rounds! Staying on this upward trajectory would require Augsburg to defy an underwhelming record of two defeats from their three most recent home league fixtures (W1), with both losses seeing them fail to get on the scoresheet. Leipzig’s visit doesn’t bode well, considering Jess Thorup’s men haven’t won any of their last 16 meetings with the Red Bull outfit (D5, L11).

On the other hand, Leipzig bounced back from a dismal three-game winless run in all competitions (D2, L1) with a comfortable 2-0 home win against newcomers St. Pauli last weekend to protect a slender one-point lead on fifth-placed Stuttgart. That was Leipzig’s first Bundesliga win in five matches (D3, L1), highlighting the depth of the crisis at the start of 2025. However, WWK Arena has been a happy hunting ground for Marco Rose’s side, as they’ve not lost at this venue since 2017 (W4, D4). ‘Die Roten Bullen’ can’t afford to rest on their laurels after drawing back-to-back away league fixtures. Those stalemates form part of Leipzig’s rotten patch on the road, where they’ve only won one of their last seven league matches (D2, L4).
