Atletico Madrid vs Real Sociedad

Metropolitano Stadium plays host to an exciting La Liga meeting between Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad. 

Atletico Madrid’s season is fizzling out, as a 0-0 stalemate against relegation-threatened Deportivo Alaves a week ago left them with just one win from their last three outings (D1, L1). Securing third place remains the main objective for the run-in, and there’s no better setting to reignite those ambitions than the Metropolitano, where only Barcelona have toppled them in La Liga this season (W12, D4). Real Sociedad’s arrival is a positive sign from Los Colchoneros’ perspective, as they last lost a league match against the San Sebastian outfit in September 2019 (W6, D4). They have been even more dominant in Madrid, where they’ve not lost any of their last 11 H2Hs (W9, D2) in a run stretching back to March 2013. 

Eager to halt Atletico Madrid’s longest unbeaten H2H run in La Liga since 1976, Real Sociedad must improve defensively after conceding precisely twice in six of their last seven visits to this stadium. That’s an ominous sign for Imanol Alguacil’s misfiring squad, given their dreadful four-game scoreless league run (D2, L2), bookended by a goalless draw in the Basque derby against Athletic Club a week ago. Three points adrift of the top seven pre-round, La Real can at least draw confidence from their recent form in the capital, as they’ve not lost any of their last five away league matches against clubs from the Community of Madrid (W1, D4), including all three this term (W1, D2).
