Arsenal vs Paris Saint-Germain

Emirates Stadium sets the stage for a blockbuster UEFA Champions League clash between Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.

Late drama has been a running theme in Arsenal’s recent Premier League duels. After conceding a 98th-minute equalizer in a gut-wrenching 2-2 draw against Manchester City, Mikel Arteta’s side netted twice in second-half stoppages to beat Leicester City 4-2 at the weekend, extending their unbeaten start to the 2024/25 campaign to eight matches in all competitions (W5, D3). However, the Gunners had goalkeeper David Raya to thank for taking a point in Bergamo in the opening Champions League round, as he saved a crucial second-half penalty to help his side hold Atalanta to a scoreless draw. Perhaps the impending home return could help Arsenal post their first European win this term, considering their inspiring seven-game form against French visitors in North London (W4, D2, L1).

Not many European teams are capable of knocking Arsenal off their perch. However, Paris Saint-Germain are among them, with Luis Enrique’s side enjoying a seven-game unbeaten run at the beginning of the season (W6, D1) despite only keeping two clean sheets. PSG saw off Rennes 3-1 last weekend to set themselves up nicely for this trip, seeking their first-ever win against Arsenal after going winless in their four previous H2Hs (D3, L1). Les Parisiens won their opening Champions League fixture against Girona 1-0, but another success looks unlikely, given they’ve lost on their last three visits to England. Adding to this sentiment, PSG’s four most recent defeats at Europe’s top table have come on the road. If it’s any consolation, they’ve won twice on their three domestic travels this season (D1), scoring 3+ goals in each victory.
