Andorra vs England
RCDE Stadium forms the backdrop for a ‘David vs Goliath’ 2026 World Cup qualifying clash between minnows Andorra and heavyweights England.
Andorra’s qualifying campaign for the 2026 World Cup was off to a disastrous start, as they lost their first two Group K outings to Latvia and Albania without scoring in March. Already nailed to the bottom of the section, they’ve cast major doubt on their hopes of securing a maiden qualification for a top international tournament, and with England rolling into town, their misery looks destined to continue. Indeed, Andorra shared the stage with the Three Lions in a qualification group for the last tournament, losing both H2Hs via an aggregate score of 9-0, including a 5-0 defeat in this corresponding fixture. That result remains their joint-largest home loss since the beginning of the 2014 World Cup qualifying cycle. Furthermore, they’ve only won three World Cup qualifiers on home soil since gaining UEFA’s recognition (D2, L27).
On the other hand, England enjoyed a bright start to life under new manager Thomas Tuchel, beating Albania and Latvia in their opening two World Cup qualifiers by 2+ goals ‘to nil’ to seize the top spot in Group K. Another landslide victory looks like a foregone conclusion, not least because they’ve won all six previous meetings with Andorra without conceding! Now unbeaten in 33 consecutive World Cup qualifiers (W25, D8), the Three Lions are keen to add to a thumping 10-0 win over San Marino in their last World Cup qualifying game on the road, which marked their ninth clean sheet in the past 11 such fixtures. Therefore, the stage looks set for England’s eighth successive World Cup finals qualification.
