Though we’re only halfway through the season, Albirex’s J1 League tenure may have already reached a ‘make or break’ point, with the host languishing four points adrift of safety after only winning three of their 18 matches (D7, L8). Their latest win came in their last home outing against Shimizu S-Pulse (2-1), yet a pair of defeats at Nagoya Grampus and Okayama sandwiched that rare success. Ominously, that triumph remains Albirex’s only home win in nine games this term (D5, L3), while they’ve not gone back-to-back in league action since gaining top-flight promotion in 2022. Yokomaha’s visit puts them in a decent position to rewrite the history books as they’ve won their last two home league meetings ‘to one’ – part of an ongoing five-game unbeaten H2H run at any venue (W2, D3).

Now would be a perfect time for Yokohama to buck that trend, considering their top-flight status is hanging by a thread only three years after conquering their fifth J1 League title. Nailed to the bottom of the standings, Patrick Kisnorbo’s men cannot afford more slip-ups as they already trail 17th-placed FC Tokyo by six points. Encouragingly, the visitors’ form has been on an upward trajectory after a dreadful start that had seen them only win once in the opening 16 rounds (D5, L10). Indeed, they’ve won their last two league fixtures against leaders Kashima Antlers and mid-table Machida, netting precisely three goals in both wins. However, it’s worth noting that they had lost three consecutive away league games before dispatching Kashima last time out.
