Manchester United vs Arsenal
Old Trafford forms the backdrop for a mouth-watering Premier League clash between eternal rivals Manchester United and Arsenal.
After a nerve-wracking 3-2 home triumph against newcomers Ipswich last time out, Manchester United will be out to post back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time this season. Achieving that feat against Arsenal – a side they trail by 21 points pre-round – won’t be straightforward, not least because they’ve lost four consecutive top-flight H2Hs for the first time in their league history. Ruben Amorim’s charges avenged that run with a stunning FA Cup triumph in January, moving with a single win from completing a century of triumphs against their arch-rivals. However, it’d require the Red Devils to pull off a rare home victory, with only two of their last seven matches at Old Trafford ending in wins (L5).
Visiting Arsenal posted a statement 7-1 win against PSV Eindhoven in midweek Champions League action after back-to-back scoreless outings in the Premier League (D1, L1). However, their hopes of ending a two-decade title drought in this competition are dead in the water, with table-topping Liverpool 16 points away. Despite boasting two games in hand and a nine-game unbeaten road league run (W5, D4), the Gunners need a miracle to ascend the throne. But they can achieve history in this fixture after a 1-0 win in last season’s corresponding fixture by beating Man Utd in consecutive away league H2Hs for the first time since 1979 in Mikel Arteta’s 200th Premier League in charge of the club.
