Getafe vs Atletico Madrid

The Coliseum is the venue as bottom-half Getafe take on La Liga title hopefuls Atletico Madrid.

Atletico’s visit doesn’t bode well for Getafe’s bid to avoid three H2H losses in a single campaign for the first time in club history after losing 1-0 and 5-0 in La Liga and Copa del Rey, respectively. A narrow defeat in the reverse fixture forms part of the hosts’ dreadful run of 24 successive top-flight H2Hs without winning (D4, L20). However, Jose Bordalas can draw heart from Getafe’s decent home form this season, as they’ve only lost three La Liga matches at the Coliseum (W3, D7).

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid’s ten-game unbeaten run in all competitions ended in midweek Champions League action as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Real Madrid in the first leg of their last-16 tie (W6, D4). However, Diego Simeone’s men have recently been unbeatable in La Liga, entering this round only a point adrift of table-topping Barcelona as a result. Indeed, a 1-0 home victory against Athletic Bilbao last weekend made it six consecutive unbeaten league games for ‘Los Rojiblancos’ (W3, D3). Furthermore, Simeone boasts an incredible managerial record against Bordalas, facing him more times without ever losing than any other coach (14 – W11, D3).
