Freiburg vs Bayer Leverkusen
Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich take a must-win trip to the Europa-Park Stadion to take on out-of-sorts Freiburg.
With the Bundesliga pacesetters rolling into town, Freiburg’s outstanding home league record (W6, D1, L1) is about to face a monumental task as Julian Schuster’s men bid to bounce back from consecutive defeats via an aggregate score of 8-1. Freiburg’s defensive frailties have seen them concede a whopping ten goals in the first three league matches of 2025, contributing to their worst defensive record after 18 rounds (34) since 2011/12. Particularly porous in the second half, they’ve conceded at least once after the halftime interval across their last nine Bundesliga fixtures. Needless to say, Freiburg have struggled defensively against Bayern Munich, conceding multiple goals in their three most recent top-flight H2Hs, including a 2-1 defeat in September’s reverse fixture (D1, L2).
On the other hand, Bayern Munich’s underwhelming Champions League campaign took another hit in midweek as Feyenoord thrashed them 3-0 in Rotterdam, halting their hopes of securing automatic Round-of-16 qualification. That result knocked them down from a three-game winning streak at the beginning of the new calendar year. Those wins all came in the Bundesliga, with the last two seeing Vincent Kompany’s side netting 3+ goals. As such, they head into proceedings at the top of the pile, four points clear of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen. Despite boasting the division’s best road record this season with 20 points (W6, D1, L1), the Bavarians have blown hot and cold across their last three away league games (W1, D1, L1), netting precisely once on each occasion.
