Hellas Verona vs Inter Milan

Newly-crowned Serie A champions Inter Milan take a trip to the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi to trade tackles with bottom-half Hellas Verona on the final day.

Hellas Verona removed all doubts regarding their second-longest Serie A stint in the past four decades with a 2-1 triumph at basement boys Salernitana last weekend. After ensuring a fifth consecutive top-flight campaign for the first time since a run of seven between 1982/83 and 1988/89, Marco Baroni’s men will be out to buck a trend of alternating between winning (3) and losing (2) across their last five Serie A outings, seeking back-to-back league wins for only the third time this season. However, that task is nothing short of Herculean, as they’re up against new champions Inter, a side that thrashed them 6-0 in this corresponding fixture last term to extend Verona’s winless H2H league run to a staggering 12 matches (D3, L9).

Unless they succumb to their first defeat at the Bentegodi since 1992, Inter Milan will end the season unbeaten against 18 out of the 19 remaining Serie A sides, with only relegation boys Sassuolo defeating Simone Inzaghi’s men in both fixtures. Netting a late equalizer in a 1-1 home draw against Lazio last weekend increased Inter’s stupendous points haul to 93 – their highest number of points in a single Serie A season since 2006/07. It’s almost inevitable Inter would add to that tally on the final weekend, given they’ve only lost once away from home this Serie A season (W15, D2), racking up an eye-catching eight wins on their last nine league travels (L1). Another win, though likely, may not be routine, as four of Inter’s six previous H2H victories have yielded a single-goal margin.
