LA Galaxy vs Sporting Kansas City

A battle for places in the Major League Soccer playoffs is heating up in the Western Conference as LA Galaxy and Sporting Kansas City go head-to-head at Dignity Health Sports Park.

LA Galaxy’s faltering bid to qualify for the Western Conference playoffs after missing out on post-season fixtures in the last two seasons took another hit as they shared the spoils with table-topping St. Louis City in a 1-1 away draw. That result forms part of the home side’s ponderous run of one win from their last five MLS matches (D1, L3). Therefore, it’s no wonder they lag a significant eight points behind the playoff line, which is why a victory against SP Kansas City is a must. Given they’re winless in their last two home league meetings with Kansas (D1, L1) and the fact they’ve conceded precisely twice in each of their five home H2Hs since a goalless draw in 2016 (W1, D1, L3), they don’t have many reasons for optimism.

However, Kansas City’s three-game MLS form (W1, D1, L1) may give them one, especially after Galaxy’s cross-town rivals Los Angeles came from a 1-0 halftime deficit to beat Peter Vermes’ side 2-1 last time out. Unlike their hosts, Kansas’ dream of setting up a place in the Western Conference playoffs after a season-long absence is still alive and kicking, with only one point separating them from the final qualifying spot. But their away form is one of the reasons that effort is still in the balance, with the ‘Wizards’ only managing one win across ten MLS travels this season (D4, L5). That’s’ not to mention they netted a meager average of 0.6 goals per away league match, casting further doubt on their bid to take home an all-important three points.
