Juventus vs Udinese 16/01/20

16 January 2020

Juventus welcome resurgent Udinese to the Allianz Stadium for in the Coppa Italia round of 16 this midweek.

The hosts enter this fixture as big favorites to advance to the quarter-finals, seeking their sixth consecutive win in competitive H2Hs with Udinese. All of their previous triumphs in those five H2Hs have come via a multiple-goal margin, with four of them seeing Juventus score over 1.5 first-half goals. Maurizio Sarri’s men have started 2020 with a bang, securing back-to-back wins over Cagliari and AS Roma, with both of those successes witnessing Juventus bag at least two goals in one of two halves. Although they’ve won just half of their last four competitive home games (W2, D1, L1), the Allianz Stadium has been a venue of entertainment lately. Indeed, all four of Juventus’ previous home matches have produced over 2.5 goals, with three of them seeing both teams score.

Meanwhile, the visitors have hit the purple patch recently, picking up three successive wins ahead of this trip. Interestingly, two of those victories have been accompanied by a clean sheet, with all three of them seeing Udinese score precisely one goal in the final ten minutes of play. But, Udinese’s away form is a sharp contrast to their recent results. The Friulians have suffered five defeats in their last seven road trips, winning the other two. What’s more, Luca Gotti’s players have drawn a blank in four of their previous nine competitive away matches, scoring one goal or less in four of the other five. Udinese are unlikely to find a solution for their problems in the attacking third here, as they’ve failed to find the net in four of their last eight trips to Juventus, scoring exactly one goal per match in the remaining four.
