Juventus vs Salernitana

Allianz Stadium is the venue as Juventus and Salernitana go head-to-head in a top-hlaf Serie A showdown.

Back to domestic proceedings following a keenly-contested 2-1 defeat away to Paris Saint-Germain in their opening Champions League fixture in midweek, Juventus will be looking to improve on an underwhelming Serie A start. Despite going unbeaten in all five opening Serie A matches (W2, D3), Juve’s performances have flattered to deceive, turning head coach Massimiliano Allegri into a highly unpopular figure in Turin. However, ‘I Bianconeri’ can draw confidence from winning all four previous Serie A meetings with Salernitana, including a brace of victories by 2+ goals ‘to nil’ at home. Goals have been hard to come by for Allegri’s men this term, as they’ve netted one or fewer in three of their inaugural five league outings. Yet delivering action from the onset, the record-time Italian champions have scored within 10 minutes of play in their last three Serie A games.

In the meantime, visiting Salernitana were held to a topsy-turvy 2-2 home draw to Empoli last time out, extending their unbeaten Serie A run to four matches (W1, D3). The visitors have gone undefeated since the opening-day loss to Roma to complete their best-ever five-game start to a new top-flight season. There’s plenty of reason for optimism in the travelling camp as ‘I Granata’ have avoided losing in their six previous league outings on the road (W2, D4), including four straight draws in the build-up to this trip. Manage Davide Nicola will be desperate to see his men keep a first-half clean sheet, given that they’ve gone unbeaten in their last eight league fixtures when shutting out the opposition at halftime (W4, D4).
