Augsburg vs Eintracht Frankfurt

Relegation-threatened Augsburg will be desperate to end a four-game winless Bundesliga streak against Eintracht Frankfurt (D1, L3) when the two sides lock horns at the WWK Arena.

Augsburg experienced a false start to 2022, going down 3-1 at Hoffenheim to end a run of three Bundesliga games without a defeat (W1, D2). After amassing 18 points from as many league matches this season, the hosts are languishing in the dreaded play-off spot, while this remains their worst points tally in seven of their last eight top-flight campaigns. But there is a glimmer of hope for the home fans that their side may kick things off here as the ‘Fuggerstädter’ have only lost one of their last six Bundesliga home outings (W3, D2), finding the back of the net in all six. Indeed, much more comfortable at the WWK Arena, Augsburg have registered 67% of their total Bundesliga goals scored this season on home turf (12/18).

Meanwhile, Eintracht Frankfurt started the new calendar year with a whimper rather than a bang, losing 3-2 to Borussia Dortmund at home despite leading 2-0 by the 70th minute. That defeat might have ended the visitors’ run of three Bundesliga wins on the trot, but it also means that none of Frankfurt’s last eight league matches have ended as a draw (W6, L2). But after winning just one of their first five Bundesliga away fixtures under new boss Oliver Glasner (D2, L2), they have won three of the last four (L1), scoring 2+ goals in each triumph. Yet, the defense has been a problem for ‘Die Adler’ on the road this season, with Eintracht registering just one clean sheet in their nine league travels thus far. That said, they have kept Augsburg at bay in each of their last four top-flight H2Hs (W3, D1).
